Skin conditions

Skin conditions can be really upsetting and can significantly affect self-confidence at any age.  Often my patients have tried many alternative routes to treating their skin condition before they see me and feel fed up that nothing has really worked for them.  A detailed consultation is essential to identify the areas of concern, what you have tried so far and identify any potential triggers and therefore the best treatment plan for you.

Acne

Acne is common in teenage years but can occur at any time in life.  It can make you feel self-conscious about your skin and can significantly affect your confidence.  Acne is often associated with blackheads or congestion and can cause scarring.

It is caused by a combination of factors.  These include:

  • Overproduction of sebum on the skin. This can be linked to hormone changes for example during teenage years or in women, to certain times in their cycle.
  • Excess dead skin cells on the skin surface which encourage blocking of the hair follicles
  • Bacteria known as P.acnes on the skin surface that when exposed to excess sebum and cells can multiply and lead to the formation of a spot.

Treatments are focused on addressing these three factors in order to prevent formation of new spots and scarring.  Medical grade skin care, medical grade chemical peels and microneedling can be used to prevent and manage acne.

Before & after

Had a great skin consultation with Louise, who analysed my skin problems and recommended products for me. I have already seen a big difference in just a couple of weeks – my friends even noticed and commented on my glowing skin via a zoom call! So excited to see even more results!

Acne scarring

Acne scarring can often affect self confidence more than acne itself as the effects are often thought to be permanent.  It occurs following significant inflammation caused by acne.  It can cause a change in colour of the skin leading to purple coloured scars or an uneven skin texture with areas of indentation known as ice pick scarring.

Treatments are focused on increasing collagen and elastin production in the dermal layer.  This acts to reduce the depth of the scars by stimulating cell turnover in the dermis.  Skin Pen microneedling and medical grade peels are often used to treat scarring effectively.

Rosacea

Rosacea is a common skin condition that is often misdiagnosed in its early stages.  It is characterised by a warm hot and sensitive irritated sensation in the cheeks particularly following exercise, a hot shower or when coming in from the cold.  It can progress to the formation of pustules or spots usually occurring initially around the nose.  If it progresses it can lead to little blood vessels bursting on the skin surface, scarring and changes in the shape or appearance of your nose.

We don’t really know the cause of rosacea but we do know that certain things seem to trigger it including: sun exposure, caffeine, spicy food, alcohol and stress.

Treatments are focused calming and managing the symptoms.  These include use of medical grade skin care and medical grade peels.

‘I was so over the moon to finally be diagnosed with rosacea and actually get some cream that might help me. Thanks so much for doing that.

Pigmentation

Pigmentation is the darkening of the skin usually in patches.  It often occurs on sun exposed sites and can be known as age spots or liver spots.  In addition during pregnancy or use of the oral contraceptive there is another condition known as melasma which causes patches of pigmentation.

Pigmentation is caused by melanin over production.  Melanin production is stimulated by sun exposure, inflammation or can be hormonal.

Treatments include Skin Pen microneedling and medical grade chemical peels combined with medical grade skin care.

Large pores

Large pores occur more frequently as collagen production reduces and the skin ages.  They can lead to an uneven appearance in the skin.

Skin Pen microneedling and medical grade chemical peels help act to promote collagen and elastin production in the dermis which acts to close or tighten the pores and significantly reduce their appearance.

Thin dry skin

Dry skin can occur in anyone at any stage in life.  It more commonly occurs as we get older and is a common complaint in women during and after menopause.  It can be made worse by use of certain products and often flares the winter months due to the harsh environment of cold weather combined with central heating.  Conditions such as eczema and psoriasis are also linked to dry skin.

Treatments include medical grade skin care, medical grade chemical peels, Skin Pen microneedling and skin boosters which can all act to encourage a healthy cell turnover and hydrate the skin.

Ageing hands

Ageing hands are a really common complaint.  It is so true that we tend to forget to apply high factor sun cream to our hands and, that combined with the fact we wash our hands often, means they can really suffer the effects of ultraviolet damage.

This can lead to pigmentation and thin, dry wrinkled skin.

Skin Pen microneedling is a great treatment for ageing hands.

Surgical scars

Scarring is the body’s natural response to trauma.  Following surgery our body produces collagen to aid with healing and the formation of a scar.  However, sometimes scars can leave you feeling fed up and self-conscious.

Treatment with Skin Pen microneedling can significantly reduce the appearance of a scar and fade its appearance by encouraging cell turnover and renewal.

Stretch marks

Following rapid growth and stretching of the dermal layer of the skin stretch marks can form.  These are common in pregnancy or during adolescence when teenagers grow rapidly.   They can also occur after weight gain.  Over time they often fade to a white appearance but sometimes the purple appearance persists.

Treatment with Skin Pen microneedling can reduce the appearance of stretch marks through encouraging cell turnover and renewal.
