Weight Loss Injections Guildford

As a fully qualified and practising GP, I see first-hand the benefits of weight loss injections such as Mounjaro on patients’ metabolic health and confidence.  It is always in your best interests to have a holistic approach to your weight loss journey and access multi-disciplinary support from nutritionists and/or a personal trainer.

Dr Bye has completed specialist training in weight loss management.  She is a certified partner of the SCOPE (Strategic Centre for Obesity Professional Education) approved National Medical Weight Loss Programme (NMWLP).  The programme has been designed as a medically supervised and holistic route to weight loss for those who are overweight or obese.

The National Medical Weight Loss Programme can reduce your appetite, hunger, suppress cravings and help you lose weight alongside developing positive habits.
Weight loss injections are just part of your weight loss journey.  Engaging with lifestyle changes and follow up appointments is crucial to provide long term results.

We currently offer weight loss injections (Mounjaro and Wegovy) to those patients who do not have any contraindications to weight loss injections AND who fit the eligibility criteria of the National Medical Weight Loss Programme (NMWLP).

What is offered in a weight loss service?

An initial in person consultation with Dr Bye

A detailed initial consultation done in person covering concerns, medical history, mental health, allergies, lifestyle, and family history.  Examination will include height, weight, body mass index or BMI, waist circumference and blood pressure. Dr Bye will ensure you fit the eligibility criteria and do not have a contraindication to weight loss injections.

Baseline blood testing and full interpretation

Blood testing to ensure that you are suitable for weight loss injections.  This can range from just a baseline kidney profile to ensure you are safe to go ahead with weight loss injections to a more detailed metabolic health screen including thyroid function, HbA1c (reflecting sugar control) testing and a cholesterol profile. Hormone profiles can be included if requested.  The results will be reviewed and interpreted by a doctor and you will receive a full copy of these, and if applicable to you, you will receive a cardiovascular risk assessment result which is the risk of having a stroke or a heart attack in the next 10 years.

Prescription for weight loss injections

Following your initial consultation and, if applicable to you, an acceptable blood result you will be provided with a prescription for the first 4 weeks of your weight loss injections.  Dr Bye will explain how to take and store your medication.  You will need a review at around every 4 weeks to assess how you are getting on and to receive the next prescription.

Onward referral to the multi-disciplinary team

You will be referred on to a personal fitness trainer and/or a BANT registered nutritionist.  This is to ensure the best support in your weight loss journey and optimal short- and long-term results.

Follow up

With Dr Bye will be every 4 weeks for 6 months and intermittently thereafter depending on your circumstances.  At follow up we will discuss any side effects, weight and waist circumference measurements, BMI, vital signs, any repeat blood testing to monitor progress and dose adjustments as required.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do weight loss injections work?

Weight loss injections work by mimicking gut hormones that control appetite, digestion and blood sugar, so you feel fuller for longer, eat less and lose weight over time.

Drugs like semaglutide (Wegovy) and tirzepatide (Mounjaro) activate GLP‑1 (and GIP for tirzepatide) receptors in the brain and gut, slowing gastric emptying and reducing hunger. They also help with metabolic control by improving insulin response and glucose control, which helps reduce fat storage and supports safer, sustainable weight loss.

Given as once‑weekly subcutaneous injections with a gradual dose escalation, they are most effective when combined with a reduced‑calorie diet, increased physical activity and clinical monitoring.

Which weight loss injections do you offer?

At Optimise Aesthetics we offer both Wegovy (semaglutide) and Mounjaro (tirazepatide) which are licensed for weight management.

How often will I need weight loss injections?

Both Mounjaro (tirzepatide) and Wegovy (semaglutide) are given as once‑weekly subcutaneous injections. Treatment typically follows a gradual dose‑escalation schedule set by your prescriber to reduce side effects: start on a lower weekly dose and increase every 4 weeks (or as advised) until the maintenance dose is reached.

Your clinician will arrange regular follow‑ups during the escalation phase and ongoing reviews every 1–3 months to monitor weight loss, side effects, blood glucose, and any other relevant labs.

Always follow the dosing plan and monitoring schedule provided by your prescribing clinician—these medicines are prescription‑only and must be managed by a healthcare professional.

How much weight can you lose on Mounjaro or Wegovy in 3 months?

Real-world and trial data show that most people lose about 9% of their starting body weight within three months of weekly Mounjaro injections. Early responders may see 6% loss by two months, rising to roughly 9% at 12 weeks and 11% by month four, when used alongside diet and lifestyle changes.

Who cannot take Mounjaro or Wegovy?

Mounjaro or Wegovy is not suitable for:
– Anyone under 18 years old
– Pregnant or breastfeeding women
– Trying to conceive
– Those with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN2)
– Patients with known hypersensitivity to tirzepatide (Mounjaro) or semaglutide (Wegovy) or its ingredients

Additionally, individuals with severe gastrointestinal disorders (e.g., gastroparesis or a history of pancreatitis) and poor kidney function should avoid Mounjaro/Wegovy due to higher risk of complications.

What are the eligibility criteria of the National Weight Loss Programme?

  • A BMI of 30 or more in caucasians or above 27.5 in non-caucasians.
  • A BMI of 27 or more with a weight related illness
  • A BMI of above 25 with a raised waist circumference on measurement by a NMWLP trained professional of above 80cm in women and 94cm in men.

** Measurements will be taken during your initial consultation**

How long does it take to get my blood test results and prescription?

Results will normally be back and fully interpreted within 48 hours. You will receive a telephone follow up and/or an email follow up (if more suitable) with a copy of your results and following this, you will receive your prescription.

How does your multi-disciplinary referral system work?

After your weight loss consultation Dr Bye will refer you on to either a personal trainer and/or nutritionist for your initial consultation with them and further support.

How do you work together with a personal trainer and nutritionist?

When patients are under either the personal trainer and/or the nutritionist we will be discussing your case and touch base intermittently to make sure your needs are being catered for and that you gain the optimum input from all sides of your ongoing weight loss journey.

How long does it take for the weight loss injections to work?

Results will vary depending on the individual.  Healthy weight loss is gradual. A sustained weight loss is one of the biggest challenges when it comes to achieving weight goals which is why the consultation and follow ups with the multi-disciplinary team is so important to help with behaviour change including nutrition, exercise and a healthy mindset.

After I have finished my initial course of weight loss injections and support do you offer ongoing monitoring and support?

Every patient is different, and many will continue their treatment on maintenance dosing to prevent weight regain.  Dr Bye will make a recommended time frame for further review with her if needed e.g. repeat blood testing, measurements assessment in 2-3 months. This will vary between patients. The personal trainer and nutritionist will also advise with regards to time frames for check ins and follow ups.

What are the side effects of weight loss injections?

The most common side effects are gastrointestinal including nausea, diarrhoea, stomach pain, and constipation. These side effects usually subside as your body adjusts to the medication.  There are some more rare serious side effects that can occur including pancreatitis.

If you are concerned, please do contact Optimise Aesthetics urgently for assistance so that we can organise a clinical review for you. If you are concerned outside of our usual working hours we recommend attending your local urgent care service or emergency department.

This can be by phone or by our email contact [email protected].
