What is BOTOX®?
Anti-wrinkle injections are otherwise more commonly known as BOTOX®. They are used to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, giving a fresh and rejuvenated appearance with the additional benefit of helping to prevent the formation of new lines and wrinkles. They are also used to treat conditions such as excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis).
Anti-wrinkle injections are administered by using a very tiny needle to inject botulinum toxin A (BOTOX®) into the facial muscles. The BOTOX® injection acts to reduce the action of the target facial muscle and hence reduce the formation of the line or wrinkle that is formed by its movement.
Results are visible after two weeks and last around three months.
Anti-wrinkle injections are used commonly to treat:
Forehead lines
Frown lines
Crow’s feet
Nasal lines (Bunny lines)
Gummy smile
Neck lines
Chin dimples
Excessive sweating or hyperhidrosis (Note: Underarm Botox results last four to eighteen months)
Why choose Optimise Aesthetics for your anti-wrinkle treatment?
My goal with all anti-wrinkle injections is to achieve a refreshed, rejuvenated, natural-looking result with minimal or no discomfort. I have extensive aesthetic and microsurgical experience with a very light touch. This is essential to minimise discomfort during injection and allows me to fine tune my anti-wrinkle treatments to the patient’s desired outcomes.
I am a qualified GP and aesthetic doctor (Level 7 Diploma Aesthetics). I have undergone extensive cosmetic dermatology and aesthetic training at Harley Academy. I specialise in treatments such as dermal fillers, profhilo, microneedling and polynucleotides.
In addition, as a GP my holistic approach to my cosmetic work allows me to explore your medical history and any concerns you may have or have previously had with regards to past treatments elsewhere. My patients often describe me as calm and reassuring. I will always discuss budget prior to treatment and will be open and honest about how to achieve the best results according to your budget too.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Botox treatment for?
Botox is primarily used to smooth fine lines and reduce the appearance of wrinkles caused by repeated facial movements – such as frown lines, forehead lines, crow’s feet and bunny lines. It can also be used to treat conditions like hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), migraine, and muscle spasms.
Is Botox safe?
Botox has been extensively studied and is considered safe when administered by a qualified professional. It has been used for cosmetic and therapeutic purposes for decades and is a medically approved treatment with a strong safety profile. Adverse reactions are rare when proper protocols are followed.
Are there any side effects to Botox?
Common side effects of Botox may include mild bruising, swelling, or temporary redness at the injection site. In rare cases, individuals may experience headache, temporary drooping of the eyelid, or asymmetry. Most effects resolve within a few days.
How long will a Botox treatment last?
The effects of a Botox treatment typically last around 3 to 4 months. Duration varies depending on factors such as muscle strength, metabolism, and the area treated. For instance, Botox in the armpits (used to treat excessive sweating) can last 4 to 18 months. Regular treatments may help prolong results.
How much does Botox cost?
Pricing depends on the number of areas treated and the dosage required. Costs typically range per area.
Where does Botox go when it wears off?
Botox gradually breaks down and is metabolised by the body. As the effect of the treatment diminishes, normal muscle activity resumes. The substance does not remain in the body long-term.
What age should I start Botox?
There is no fixed age to begin Botox. Many patients consider treatment in their late 20s to early 30s as a preventative measure, while others opt for it later to manage established fine lines and wrinkles.
Should I avoid anything after receiving Botox?
After Botox, you are advised to avoid strenuous exercise, alcohol, excessive heat, and lying flat for several hours. These precautions help minimise migration of the Botox and help achieve optimal results.
What is the difference between fillers and Botox?
Botox reduces muscle movement to soften expression lines, whereas dermal fillers restore volume and structure to the skin. Fillers are typically used for areas like the cheeks, lips, and under-eye hollows, where Botox targets dynamic wrinkles. Both treatments can be used in conjunction with each other to achieve the desired outcome – your individual requirements will be discussed in your consultation.
Who cannot receive Botox?
Botox is not recommended for individuals who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or with certain neurological or muscular conditions. Individuals with known allergies to botulinum toxin or albumin should also avoid treatment. A consultation is essential before undergoing your first Botox treatment.
What Our Clients Have to Say
“I have Botox in three areas. Dr Louise is excellent at making everything bespoke to your individual needs. She spends so much time looking at your face and your muscles and the way everything moves to make sure that the treatment is exactly what you want or what you need. I was particularly surprised after the first treatment at how the skin texture felt so much better than it ever had before. How your skin looks and feels is quite different, obviously in a positive way. I felt more alert, awake and fresh faced.”
