Why choose cheek enhancement?

Part of the aging process involves a loss of bone in the mid face, known as bone resorption. In addition, the fat underlying our skin tends to gravitate down which can cause our cheek areas to lose volume and look a little loose or sunken.

Polynucleotides are widely used as a method of cheek enhancement. Polynucleotides to the cheek create subtle volume in the mid-face. They can also soften the appearance of other changes in our lower faces, such as nasolabial folds or nose to mouth lines. Following cheek enhancement my patients feel they look rejuvenated and refreshed with a more youthful glowing appearance.

What are cheek polynucleotide fillers?

Profhilo is a revolutionary hyaluronic acid skin booster which is injected directly into the dermis using a tiny needle.   It is revolutionary in its physical properties which allow it to be used on the face, neck, decolletage, body and hands.  It hydrates and plumps the skin to reduce the appearance of sagging or loosening on the skin.  It reduced lines and wrinkles giving a firmer youthful and rejuvenated appearance.  It is a very popular sort after treatment due to the results it achieves.

Benefits of cheek polynucleotide fillers include:

  • Loss of skin elasticity due to aging, weight loss or post pregnancy.
  • Dehydration and dullness
  • Reduce fine lines and ageing

How do hyaluronic acid fillers work?

Dermal fillers are another option at Optimise Aesthetics, and consist of a synthetic hyaluronic acid gel. When injected into different layers of the face it can be used to reduce the appearance of sagging or loosening of the skin, folds, lines, wrinkles and to reshape areas of the face that have lost volume due to ageing. It has the added benefit of being very hydrating, as it attracts water molecules. This allows for a plumping and firming effect and gives a more youthful and rejuvenated appearance.

Dermal filler injections are administered by using a needle or a cannula technique. Dermal fillers contain local anaesthetic within them which helps minimise discomfort during the procedure. Depending on the area treated you may also need to have topical local anaesthetic cream applied prior to treatment to minimise discomfort.

Results are visible immediately and last between three to eighteen months depending on the filler used.

Before and After

Frequently Asked Questions

What is cheek enhancement?

As we age, our cheek bones tend to flatten and shrink a little.  The consequences are a descent of the overlying structures leading to a sagging or sad appearance in the lower face.  Cheek Enhancement can be used to replace that lost volume and improve the appearance.

What is the best treatment for plump cheeks?

Dermal fillers are the most commonly used treatment for cheek enhancement or plump cheeks.  They can be combined with polynucleotide treatments to create a lovely healthy glow to the cheeks.

Do cheek lifts actually work?

Yes, dermal filler cheek lifts or enhancements are a very popular treatment due to their results.

Are polynucleotides better than fillers?

Polynucleotides are different to fillers.  They are biostimulators whereas fillers are volume replacers. Polynucleotides can soften lines and create a lovely healthy glow to the skin.  However, deeper or more prominent lines may require more significant volume replacement and therefore fillers are suitable for these lines.

How many sessions of polynucleotides do you need?

Two to three treatments each spaced 3 weeks apart.

How long do cheek fillers last?

Most hyaluronic acid-based cheek fillers deliver results between 6 to 18 months, depending on the filler used and injection site.

What are the risks or complications of cheek fillers?

Cheek dermal fillers are generally safe, but potential side effects include bruising, swelling, redness, and tenderness at the injection sites. Some patients experience small lumps, itching, or nodules, which usually resolve within one to two weeks. Rare complications can include infection, allergic reactions, or filler migration – always see a professional with extensive experience in dermal fillers to ensure proper technique and product selection in order to minimise these risks.

Will cheek fillers lift the face?

Yes. Strategic placement of cheekbone fillers restores mid-face volume, creating a natural lifting effect. By replenishing lost fat pads around the malar region, cheek enhancement can soften nasolabial folds and subtly elevate the lower face, improving overall facial contours without surgery.

What happens if you stop getting cheek fillers?

When you discontinue cheek fillers, the injected hyaluronic acid naturally breaks down over 3-18 months and is absorbed by the body. Your cheeks will gradually return to their pre-filler state, and you won’t experience accelerated aging or permanent skin damage.

Does cheek filler give you a chubby or pillow face?

“Pillow face” occurs when fillers are placed too superficially or in excessive volumes, resulting in a puffy, overfilled appearance. This arises from poor technique – filler should be injected deeply, near the bone, for structural support. When administered by an experienced injector, cheek fillers enhance bone structure without adding unwanted puffiness. It’s essential to discuss your goals and choose subtle, tailored cheek enhancement for a natural-looking result.

Will cheek fillers slim my face?

It may seem counterintuitive, but well-placed cheek fillers can create a slimmer appearance. By adding volume to the upper cheeks and temples, fillers shift attention upward, improving jawline definition and producing a more sculpted effect without the need for invasive procedures.

Who shouldn’t get fillers?

Dermal fillers are not recommended for individuals with:

  • Active skin infections or inflammation at treatment sites
  • Known allergies to filler ingredients (e.g. hyaluronic acid or XX)
  • Bleeding disorders or use of blood-thinning medications
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding

Always consult an FDA-approved practitioner for a thorough medical evaluation before treatment.
