How are fillers used for jawline contouring?
Jawline contouring using dermal fillers acts to redefine the jaw area. As we get older a combination of descent of our mid face fat pads and bone resorption leads to loss of our jaw line definition. Jawline dermal fillers replace the lost volume and redefines the jaw area.
What are polynucleotides for jawline shaping?
Polynucleotides are advanced biostimulators derived from DNA fragments that work beneath the skin’s surface. Unlike traditional fillers, polynucleotides don’t add volume – they kickstart your skin’s own repair mechanisms by stimulating collagen production, boosting fibroblast activity, improving elasticity and reducing inflammation.
Polynucleotides can be used to firm and tighten skin above the jawline and can be used alone or in combination with dermal fillers to help improve jawline definition. If you have dermal fillers for your jawline, polynucleotides can act to reduce the frequency and volume of filler use and promote a lovely glow to the skin.
The results are not instant but improvement can be noted from about three weeks and continues to improve over a twelve-week period.

How do hyaluronic acid fillers work?
Dermal fillers consist of a synthetic hyaluronic acid gel. When injected into different layers of the face it can be used to reduce the appearance of sagging or loosening of the skin, folds, lines, wrinkles and to reshape areas of the face that have lost volume due to ageing. It has the added benefit of being very hydrating, as it attracts water molecules. This allows for a plumping and firming effect and gives a more youthful and rejuvenated appearance.
Dermal filler injections are administered by using a needle or a cannula technique. Dermal fillers contain local anaesthetic within them which helps minimise discomfort during the procedure. Depending on the area treated you may also need to have topical local anaesthetic cream applied prior to treatment to minimise discomfort.
Results are visible immediately and last between three to eighteen months depending on the filler used.

Before and After
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you actually reshape your jawline?
Yes, the jawline can be reshaped using dermal filler treatments. Polynucleotides can be used to enhance these results.
Can I reshape my jaw without surgery?
Yes, the jawline can be shaped and contoured using dermal filler treatments. Polynucleotides can be used to enhance these results.
Can polynucleotides lift jowls?
Polynucleotides act to promote collagen and elastin production in the skin and can firm the skin. By firming the skin above the jawline level, it can help reduce the appearance of the jowls.
Do polynucleotides lift the face?
Polynucleotides firm and tighten the skin by promoting collagen and elastin production. They don’t physically lift the face but can improve appearance of saggy or loose skin by increasing collagen levels.
Are polynucleotides better than fillers?
Polynucleotides are different to fillers. They are biostimulators whereas fillers are volume replacers. Polynucleotides can soften lines and create a lovely healthy glow to the skin. However, deeper or more prominent lines may require more significant volume replacement and therefore fillers are suitable for these lines.
How many sessions of polynucleotides do you need?
Usually two to three sessions are required each spaced 3 weeks apart.
What is the best age for a jowl lift?
This is completely dependent on the patient. Every patient is different. Some people notice changes in their late 30’s and early 40’s in the jowl area and others don’t notice until their late 50’s.
How long does a jawline filler last?
Jawline fillers made of hyaluronic acid generally last between 6 and 18 months. Denser products and deeper placement can extend longevity, but metabolism and product choice play key roles.
Is jawline filler a good idea?
If you want a non-surgical way to sharpen your jaw, lift mild jowls and improve facial balance, jawline filler is an excellent option. It delivers immediate contouring with minimal downtime. Success hinges on choosing an experienced, qualified injector who can customise volume, placement and product type to your anatomy.
Who is not a candidate for jaw fillers?
You should avoid jawline filler if you have:
- Active skin infection or inflammation around the jaw
- Known allergy to hyaluronic acid or lidocaine
- Bleeding disorders or use of strong blood thinners
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding
Do jawline fillers cause sagging?
Properly placed fillers provide lift, not sag. They replace lost mid-face support and define the mandibular border, which helps tighten jowls. Sagging only occurs if too much product is injected superficially or in the wrong plane—so conservative volumes and placement on bone are key.
Can jawline fillers go wrong?
As with any injectable, risks include bruising, swelling, asymmetry, lumps or rare vascular compromise. Choosing an experienced practitioner minimises complications. If you’re unhappy, hyaluronidase can dissolve hyaluronic acid fillers quickly and safely.
Can jawline fillers fix jowls?
Yes. By restoring volume to the jaw angle and pre-jowl sulcus, fillers lift sagging tissues and camouflage jowls. Indirect mid-face augmentation (cheek fillers) combined with jawline contouring often produces the smoothest lower-face rejuvenation.
How many fillers do you need for a jawline?
Most people need 1–2 mL per side (1–2 syringes total) for subtle jaw definition. Men or clients seeking a very strong angle may require 3–6 mL. Your injector will tailor volume based on jaw width, facial proportions and desired sharpness.
Is jawline filler painful?
Discomfort is usually mild—a quick pinch or pressure. Topical numbing cream plus lidocaine in the filler itself keeps pain to a minimum.
Does jawline filler change your smile?
No. Filler is placed on or just above the bone along the jaw and doesn’t interfere with the muscles that control smiling. Any temporary tightness or swelling resolves within days, leaving your expressions natural.
Does jaw filler slim your face?
Yes. Well-placed jawline filler creates a stronger lower-face frame, drawing the eye to a sharp angle rather than mid-face or chin fullness. That contrast makes the lower face look more sculpted and slender.
What happens to jawline fillers over time?
Hyaluronic acid fillers biodegrade gradually as your body metabolises them. You’ll notice a slow decline in volume over 6–18 months. Some collagen stimulation may persist after the filler itself has resolved, helping skin quality.
What happens to jaw fillers if you lose weight?
The filler itself stays intact, but surrounding fat loss can make the injected areas appear more prominent or uneven. You may need a volume tweak or redistribution once your weight stabilises to maintain balanced contours.
Does jawline filler get rid of a double chin?
Jawline filler doesn’t dissolve fat, so it won’t directly remove a double chin. However, by lifting and sharpening the jaw border, it can camouflage mild submental fullness and improve your profile.
