Perioral or Smokers Lines

Perioral or smokers lines can develop above the upper lip in both smokers and non smokers. They develop due to a loss of elasticity and collagen in the skin with time and they tend to be more obvious when we talk, eat, smile and frown.

They can be treated with a very fine elastic form of dermal filler known as a skin booster. Following application of a topical local anaesthetic cream the skin booster is injected very superficially into the dermis of the skin to smooth out these lines. They can also be treated effectively using a course micro-needling to stimulate collagen production in the dermis and hence reduce the appearance of these fine lines above the lip.

Dermal fillers are reversible and biodegradable hyaluronic acid fillers to allow for maximum safety and natural results.

Hyaluronic acid is synthesised in the dermal layer of the skin. Dermal fillers consist of a synthetic hyaluronic acid gel. When injected into different layers of the face it can be used to reduce the appearance of sagging or loosening of the skin, folds, lines, wrinkles and to reshape areas of the face that have lost volume due to ageing. It has the added benefit of being very hydrating as it attracts water molecules. This allows for a plumping and firming affect and gives a more youthful and rejuvenated appearance.

Just like your own bodies hyaluronic acid; hyaluronic acid fillers degrade slowly over time and are naturally broken down by enzymes in the dermis layer of your skin.

Dermal filler injections are administered by using a needle or a cannula technique. Depending on the area treated you may need to have topical local anaesthetic cream applied prior to treatment to minimise discomfort. Dermal fillers contain local anaesthetic within them which also helps minimise discomfort during the procedure.

I use the FDA Approved Skin Pen Micro-needling treatment following application of topical local anaesthetic. The advantage of this treatment is that the whole face will be treated to give a youthful, refreshed appearance with added benefits of reduced wrinkles and fine lines elsewhere and a rejuvenated appearance with reduction in pores.

Results are for dermal filler are visible immediately and last between three to six months.

Results for microneedling start to become visible after the first treatment and build up slowly with maximum results following three to six treatments.
