What are smokers lines?
Smokers lines, also known as perioral lines, can develop above the upper lip and/or below the lower lip in both smokers and non smokers. They develop due to a loss of elasticity and collagen in the skin with time and they tend to be more obvious when we talk, eat, smile and frown.
How can smokers lines be treated?
Dermal fillers
A very fine elastic form of dermal filler known as a skin booster is injected, following application of a local anaesthetic cream. The filler is injected very superficially into the dermis of the skin to smooth out these lines.
Results for dermal fillers for smokers lines are visible immediately and last between three to six months.
Microneedling
Smokers lines can also be treated effectively using microneedling to stimulate collagen production in the dermis and hence reduce the appearance of these fine lines above the lip.Results for microneedling start to become visible after the first treatment and build up slowly with maximum results following three to six treatments.
